Implant Dentistry

The wonderfully advancing technology of dental implants allows us to provide highly satisfactory tooth replacements to our patients. Even those patients who might not have been able to get implants just a few years ago may now be good candidates.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a method of replacing a tooth with an artificial tooth anchored to a titanium root. The titanium part is called the “implant” and the ceramic replacement tooth is a “crown.”

The titanium implant is placed in the bone of the jaw and then is allowed to bond tightly with the bone. The natural-looking ceramic tooth is then secured to the top of the implant. The result is a durable, natural-looking, undetectable replacement tooth.

Dental Implants

A single dental implant can serve as the anchor for an individual tooth, providing a fully functional replacement.

All-on-4 Implant Dentures:

Upper or lower dentures can be affixed to four carefully placed implants, resulting in a denture that doesn’t shift or come out. (In some cases, additional implants are required.)

Dental Implants FAQs

  • A tooth with a root canal fractured and had to be removed. Can I replace it with an implant?

Teeth with root canals become brittle and often fracture. It might be necessary to replace this tooth with a bridge. But many patients can receive an implant instead. A careful examination with x-rays will help us determine if an implant is right for you.

  • I wear full upper and lower dentures. Would I need an implant for each tooth I am replacing?

No, you wouldn’t. We can support either denture with four implants (some patients may require more) in the your upper or lower jaw. We then design removable dentures that clip into these implants or ones that are permanently attached.

  • Years ago, I lost upper teeth in the back and now I have sinuses problems on that side. Can I replace these teeth with implants?

When teeth are missing for a long time, there can be jawbone loss. Placing implants in this area could penetrate the sinus. To remedy this, we thicken the bone in the area with a bone graft which is a routine surgical procedure. When the bone is stronger, we can then place implants.
